CLASS DISCRIPTIONS

Tap and Intro to Ballet Classes:

Amie Jerrin (541-297-6586) has taken eight years of tap and four years of ballet at Pacific School of Dance and has been a substitute teacher for their tap classes.  Her tap routine was impressive at the 2010 Coquille’s Got Talent Show and we are glad to have her carry tap and ballet into the summer.  Ballet and tap shoes and outfits are required and can be obtained from the Pacific School of Dance (Downtown Studio has a limited supply of tap shoes also for sell).

Toddler Music and Movement Dance Class:

Elizabeth Gale (lizabethg@hotmail.com) has a Bachelors Degree in Child and Family Studies, an Associates of Arts in Early Childhood Education and has been a preschool teacher in Portland.  She plans to incorporate her toddler education skills in a fun movement and dance class.

Hip Hop Club:

Brittany Figueroa (541 396-5364) choreographed and danced a wonderful dance routine with two of her friends at the 2010 Coquille’s Got Talent Show.  She would like to get a group together and possibly create a you tube video by the end of this summer.  Even if you just like to dance, come and learn some moves.

Baton Twirling Class:

Rachelle Stichroth (541-396-9611) did baton twirling as a hobby since the age of 10.  She is excited to be teaching ages 3 and up the art of baton twirling starting July 1st.  Batons are required, cost $36.65, and take 2 weeks to ship so order you baton through Rachelle as soon as possible.  Measure from armpit to index fingertip.

Art and Invitational Art:

Dawn Raymer (541-740-4277) incorporates art history and art education as she helps her students create wonderful pieces of art.  She brings surprising items to the classroom and lets the students explore ways to turn odd items into masterpieces.

Art for Preschool to 3rd grade:

Anne Reahart (bonics@hughes.net) has worked as a HeadStart substitute teacher.  She studied at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland for one year and minored in Art.  She would like to teach the elements of drawing for ages 4 to 8.

Anime Sketching:
Maria O'Brien (541-572-5687) has been quite successful with her anime sketching class, creating a class of loyal students that will continue through the summer.  New students who want to explore how to sketch anime characters are welcome!

Knitting Club:
Marisol O'Brien (541-572-5687) who has taken knitting classes through the year will hold a club that will allow knitters to socialize and help each other pursue knitting projects.

Crochet Club:

Lori Perry (541-396-1944) has been crocheting since childhood and would like to share her skills to help kids create crafts and useful items.

Quilts For Kids by Kids:
Joan Glasgow (541-266-0108) has quilted for 7 years but been sewing since her childhood.  She has creative ideas of how children can “color” in squares and then teach them to sew the squares together.  The final quilts will be donated to the hospital for newborns.

Music Lessons (Guitar) $40 per month:
Connie Sue McSwan (541-613-0927)  has been playing guitar since she was 10 and has played in the band “Out at the Lake“. She has taught her own kids and their friends and would like to spread the joy of learning and playing music.  She likes teaching guitar to small groups of interested students.

Music Lessons (Guitar and Clarinet) $40 per month:

Nancy Keller (541-396-3855 and drnancykeller@yahoo.com) has played clarinet since childhood and currently plays in the Bay Area Community Band.  She is self taught on the guitar and enjoys playing camp songs for Camp Myrtlewood.  Individual lessons to start guitar or help at beginning/intermediate clarinet are available.

Music Lessons (Ukele and Piano) $50 per month:

Anneke Dunnington (541-396-4764) plans to share the joy of the obscure Ukele and also of the more popular piano on Saturdays.

Cake Decorating (July only) $50 for 5 week course:

Jeri Ramey (541 396-6384) is a talented cake decorator which is a hobby for her but her classes are extremely popular and her students create cakes that look professional.  First class would be preparing cakes for the Fourth of July.  Students will need to provide their own circular cakes or Styrofoam bases will be supplied.  Jeri will supply the icing and tools to create works of bakery art.

Collector Card Dueling Club:

Jamison Schwerdtfeger  (541-396-3333) will be the Youth Program Manager of this Coquille Together sponsored program.  Jamison has been involved in collectable card dueling since he was 8 years old, especially with Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic.  The club is registered with Wizards.com as an official host club for Magic.

Chess Club and Classes:

Nancy Keller (541-396-3855 and drnancykeller@yahoo.com) has taken Coquille players and teams to State and National championships demonstrating a small town can produce outstanding chess players.  Come to play just for fun (adults invited too) or learn tactics and strategies to become a better tournament chess player.  Also note fun at LaVerne Park chess tournaments and waterfests scheduled June 26th, July 24th and August 14th.
