The BIZ KIDS 0f Coquille
COQUILLE TOGETHER (CT), a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit since 1996, is an active partner with the CAEEC foundation. Our mission is to provide after school and summer programs for Coquille youth at no cost or low cost in order to provide safe and healthy programs as an alternative to juvenile delinquency and drug and alcohol abuse. CT has partnered with CAEEC and will be moving their afterschool and summer classes to the Downtown Studio. One of their progams is The BIZ KIDS 0f Coquille and the other is The Youth Technology Center of Coquille. They are in the process of raising funds and recruiting volunteers to help run these important classes. It has been their experience that these programs have a great appeal for 5th through 8th grade students.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Our program has been designed to help develop personal management and business skills in preparation for the future. These programs work within school-based activities for help in developing school to work possibilities for after school and summer activities.
Our purpose is to offer more opportunities to our intermediate, middle and high school youth for developing personal and business management skills as well as promoting volunteer involvement within the Coquille community. This helps in the development of an educated and well-rounded workforce for the future.
WHERE WE ARE AT THIS TIME
Our previous classes were held at the middle school as an after school program. However, with the move of some of the elementary classes to the middle school, the room we were using is no longer a classroom. Last year, we had access to the schools equipment and tech lab, enabling us to provide a comprehensive program. We are in the process of fundraising to be able to purchase equipment and materials that will stay with the program.
This program ties in with The Youth Technology Center of Coquille, as we use computers and learn how to use Microsoft Office 2007 by writing business letters in Word, making presentations in PowerPoint, and creating flyers and posters in Publisher. Advanced students will learn how to develop and manage a website (from a website provider). The purpose is to integrate technology into the many aspects of starting and running a business or working for company or corporation A point to be made, it was mostly 5th graders who participated in the classes, with a few 7th & 8th graders.
In addition, we are looking for volunteers to help give this class. On-The -Job Training is available. If you can help with materials and equipment or some of your time, please contact Terry at director@caeec.net or by calling (541) 396-3333.
